2010 Tree Planting Trip Reflections

Blog

The following are a sample of student reflections from the 2010 MTP Tree Planting Trip:

“It was encouraging to see the success of the previous year’s hard work and watching it grow. I can’t wait to see the difference this project has made in this region in the years to come” – Beth Burrill, SMIC

“It was really inspiring to see how much determination and heart each person had when they were planting” – Amy Zhou, SMIC

“I think the project presents people with the opportunity to be a part of something really big” – Jessica Tsu, SMIC

“Some of the best of my high school memories will be attributed to the Million Tree Project. I hope to do all this again in my last year next year and I know that my experiences here will stay with me forever” – Jessica Tsu, SMIC

“I’ve learned how far a word of encouragement or a friendly smile goes. I’ve learned that although we’re all different, it doesn’t really stand in our way because we have the same goals and that unites us” – Jessica Hao, SAS Pudong

“The planting tree experience is far from what I expected. I was dirty and wet but it felt so good after the work was done. It was extremely rewarding” – Connie, SAS Pudong

“I learned that I have a bigger environmentalist in me than I ever knew. I never thought that it would pain me to see a landscape as much as it did when I saw the grassland-desert” – Max Wang, SAS Pudong

“It gave me hope and inspiration, reinforcing my thoughts on the project. It made me want to come back and see for myself the saplings grow up and help the environment” – Mimi Liu, SAS Pudong

“I learned that Roots & Shoots is a really great organization that actually cares about the environment. They influenced me to become aware of my own impact on the environment and help it anytime I can” – Michelle Lock, SAS Puxi

“I found the tree hugger inside of me” – Steven Pak, SAS Puxi

“Everyone, including the farmers, the Roots & Shoots staff, the trip participants, and the local people have been working very hard. Our contact with these people just broadened our view on environmental issues and protection and the lives of people here in Inner Mongolia” – Vivian Tang, SMIC

“I was amazed at how much the trees could grow in so little time. It made me feel like what we’re doing is making more of a difference than we think” – Stephanie Sun, SAS Puxi

Candy
