2023年8月，在宁夏持续的高温干旱的天气中，百万植树计划的宁夏治沙地的生态多样性调查如期开始，项目地依旧位于宁夏白芨滩国家级自然保护区，包括志愿者和MTP项目工作人员在内共6人组成的团队，开展了此次调查。
In August 2023, the Million Tree Projectconducted the forest survey on biodiversity in Ningxia forest sites, despite of the ongoing heat. The forest sites are located in Baijitan National Nature
Reserve. The team included MTP staff and volunteers, 6 in total.
此次调查从8月19日起至23日，历时5天，调查了2015-2023年的8块项目地。期间调查团队随机抽样调查32块样地（每块样地为100个草方格，面积约100平方米），对草方格沙障中草本植物和灌木的种类和数量进行辨识统计。记录了灌木和草本植物31种，共56217棵。
The survey took five days, from August 19 to 23, looking into the eight forest sites planted from 2015 to 2023. 32 sample sites were surveyed, with 100 straw grids on each covering an area of 100 square meters. On each sample site, the team counted the types and the amount of plants and shrubs, recorded 56,217 shrubs and plants of 31 species.
志愿者此前从没参与过相关内容，此次活动中也第一次体验了的野外调查，包括测量灌木的冠径，数灌木的分蘖数量。第一次认真的辨认随处可见的沙漠野草，记录它们的数量。发现这些普普通通但顽强的野草的美。
It was a first-time experience for the volunteers. They learnt how to do field work, including measuring the height and crown size of the shrubs, counting the tillers of the shrubs etc. They learnt from the scratch to identify the common desert plants and count them. The more they learnt, the more they appreciated the beauty of these viable drought-tolerant plants.
志愿者在重复枯燥的野外工作中，亲身体会并理解到治理沙漠化的艰难和必要性。项目工作人员也希望能够让更多的人能够参与进来，在沙地里增添那些普普通通顽强存活的草本和灌木。为祖国西北地区筑造起一道更坚固的绿色屏障。
The volunteers also understood better after the field work how difficult it is to fight desertification and how important the reforestation work is. We hope more will come to see the plants and shrubs growing strongly on the sandy land, to join the efforts of building the green belt to protect the western north areas of China.
