Forest Growth Data
In 2025, cooperating with the local farmer in Horqin Zuoyi Houqi, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia, MTP contributed to the ecological restoration in three degraded forest renewal sites. All the three plots were near the Jiergalang Town and the main species was poplars adapted to the local climate, supplemented by drought-tolerant native species with low water requirements such as elms and Acer mono (maples). (These were not included in the main statistics due to their small number). The three forest plots restored in 2025 was originally degraded forest with relatively good conditions—relatively flat terrain and low surface exposure; however, a large number of tree roots remained in the soil, making planting operations more difficult. In addition, due to its near to villages, there was slight disturbance from grazing.

As shown in Image 2, the survival rates of the three forest plots differed significantly: Plot 2025-1 had a relatively high initial planting survival rate, reaching 86%. Plot 2025-3 met the acceptable standard, and Plot 2025-2 was slightly above 50%.

During the survey, sample sites with less than 50% surviving trees were considered to have failed to meet the survival standard. The compliance rates of various sample sites in the three forest plots are statistically compared as follows:
Table 1. The compliance rates of the sample sites in three forest plots
As can be seen from the table above, all sample sites in 2025-1 and 2025-3 met the standards. However, only 57% of the sites in 2025-2 met the standards, indicating that there was a large-scale seedling mortality in this plot.
This year, high-density mechanical planting was used in the plot with 1-2 year old bare-root poplar seedlings. And most of the seedlings were planted with stem-cutting treatment, so the seedlings were small, and the average values of tree height, basal diameter, diameter at breast height(DBH), and other indexes were all low (as shown in Table 2). Due to the impact of stem-cutting treatment, the growth indicators of seedlings, such as tree height, basal diameter, and DBH, cannot accurately reflect their actual growth status. They need to be evaluated after a period of growth accumulation.

Forest Description
Located in the northwest of Jiergalang Town, Plot 2025-1 covered an area of 20 hectares and was mainly planted with poplars and a small number of elms. It was close to the village, and most of the surrounding area was farmland.

Numerous suckers sprouted from the original tree roots between the rows of trees in the forest, and weeds grew densely; at the same time, the newly planted seedlings sprouted well.

The poplar seedlings were influenced by the dense weeds, but the extent was limited; however, a large amount of weeds also increased the risk of fire. Currently, the overall condition of the forest was relatively healthy, and continued nurturing and management (such as weed clearing and seedling maintenance) was necessary to consolidate current achievements and reduce risks.
